Low carbon steel
Low carbon steel is also known as soft steel, the carbon content is from 0.10 to .30% and easily accepted by various processing such as forging, welding and cutting, commonly used in the manufacturing chain, rivets, bolts, shafts, etc.. Carbon content less than 0.25% carbon steel, because of its low strength, low hardness and soft, it is also known as soft steel. It includes the most ordinary carbon structural steel, and part of high-quality carbon structural steel, mostly without heat treatment for engineering structural components, some by carburizing and heat treatment for the requirements of wear of mechanical parts.
Low carbon steel annealing organization ferrite and a small amount of pearlite, lower its strength and hardness, good ductility and toughness. Therefore, the cold formability of good can be curling, bending, stamping and other methods of cold forming. This steel has good weldability. The hardness of low carbon steel with a low carbon content is low, and poor machinability, the normalizing treatment can improve its machinability.
The aging tendency of low-carbon steel, both quench aging tendency deformation aging tendency. When the rapid cooling of the steel from high temperature ferrite scraping carbon, nitrogen supersaturated at ordinary temperature, it can also be slowly formed a carbonitride of iron, and thus the strength and hardness of the steel, and the ductility and toughness is reduced, this phenomenon called quenching aging. Low carbon steel quenching and air cooling will produce aging.
