What are commonly used oil well casings in energy projects

Oil well casings are primarily used for drilling and transporting oil and gas in oil and gas wells. They include drill pipe, casing, and sucker pipe. Drill pipe connects the drill collar and drill bit, transmitting drilling power. Casing supports the wellbore during drilling and after completion, ensuring the well’s continued operation. Suction pipe transports oil and gas from the bottom of the well to the surface.

Oil well casing is the lifeline for maintaining well operation. Due to varying geological conditions and complex downhole stresses—tensile, compressive, bending, and torsional stresses acting on the casing—high demands are placed on its quality. Damage to the casing can lead to reduced production or even the abandonment of the entire well.

Oil casing can be classified into different steel grades based on the strength of the steel itself, such as J55, K55, N80, L80, C90, T95, P110, Q125, and V150. Different well conditions and depths require different oil casing steel grades. In corrosive environments, the oil casing itself must also have corrosion resistance. In areas with complex geological conditions, the oil casing must also have resistance to crushing.
