Why are 316L stainless steel pipe fittings commonly used in industrial projects

The common use of 316L stainless steel pipe fittings in industrial projects as project accessories is not solely due to their superior corrosion resistance. The reasons are actually as follows:

1. 316 stainless steel is a molybdenum-containing stainless steel. Due to the molybdenum content, its overall performance is superior to that of 310 and 304 stainless steels. Under high-temperature conditions, when the concentration of sulfuric acid is below 15% and above 85%, 316 stainless steel has a wide range of applications. 316 stainless steel also has good resistance to chloride corrosion, so it is commonly used in marine environments. With a carbon content of 0.03%, 316L stainless steel can be used in applications where post-weld annealing is not possible and where corrosion resistance is required.

2. Corrosion resistance: Its corrosion resistance is superior to that of 304 stainless steel, exhibiting excellent corrosion resistance in pulp and paper production processes. Furthermore, 316 stainless steel is resistant to marine and corrosive industrial atmospheres.

3. Heat Resistance: 316 stainless steel exhibits good oxidation resistance in intermittent use below 1600°C and continuous use below 1700°C. Continuous use of 316 stainless steel should be avoided within the temperature range of 800-1575°C, but it exhibits good heat resistance when used continuously outside this temperature range. 316L stainless steel has better resistance to carbide precipitation than 316 stainless steel and can be used within the aforementioned temperature range.
